21st Century Tools
These we are some of the websites we have been using in my classroom over the school year. We have to write about which ones we think we will use the most in high school or when were older.
- Edublogs
- Webspiration
- Vimeo
- Glogster
- Xtra Normal
- Wikispaces
- Flickr
- Wallwisher
- Voicethread
- Windows Movie Maker
- Kizoa
- Animoto
- Youtube
- Wordle
- Moodle
- elluminate
- Voki
- Skype
- Widgetbox
- Gmail
- Vocaroo
When I go to high school these will all help me, but if I had to choose the ones that would help me the most they would have to be:
- Webspiration becasue if my teacher ever wanted me to make a web I could use webspiration. It keeps your webs more organized and they look nicer, which could help me get a better mark.
- I think I would use Flickr because if I need a picture for a project Flickr would be good for it. Plus it is cool because they’re pictures that people take and upload and there are a lot of them that have a creative commons licenses. There are some great pictures in there. Our class has a Flickr account and I could create my own one day.
- I think I would use Animoto a lot too because it’s a better alternative than creating a slide show for a project. I would use Animoto because the videos are really cool and you can add music.
- I would use Gmail and Google Docs too because I could use it to make surveys. I used it to make my survey for my entrepreneur fair product and it worked really well.
A lot of these I would just use on my own if I wanted, too. Not just for projects.
Do you know about any of these tools?
The Best Field Trip Ever! :D
My class and I went on a field trip to the Vancouver Aquarium. It was so cool! After school we had some of the parents of my classmates drive us down to the Nanaimo ferry. After waiting a bit, we walked on to the ferry. When we got on the ferry it was 5:00pm so my friends and I bought some dinner to eat in the cafeteria. We also played at the arcade and we went to the gift shop but I didn’t buy anything. However, I did take lots of pictures. When we got off the ferry we jumped on a bus and off we went. The bus ride was surprisingly FUN! When we got there we had to play on the playground for about an hour and it was pouring rain so when we finally got to go inside it was 9:00 pm and it looked like I just took a shower. When we got in they talked to us for 2 minutes and we were off! The first things I got to go to were the touch tanks. The touch tanks are where they have sea stars, crabs, sea cucumbers, and a bunch of sea creatures we could touch. My favourite was the sea stars. A sea star looks like a star and they have tentacles to stick to things and a little mouth on the bottom of them right in the middle. They all have different skins too some soft some hard and some in between. I also learned they were called sea stars! At first I thought they were called starfish because that’s what most people call them so I guess it just caught on, but it’s nice to know their real name. So we went to about five touch tanks. Then we went to watch a video about predator and prey. It was really cool! After we went to go get snacks. Yum! The Aquarium staff brought out meat and cheese trays and they had some buns so I made a mini-sandwich. After that we got to go down to where they have all the piping and machinery that runs the tanks. It’s also where they can get into the fish tanks to feed them and clean them. After that we went to the Amazon exhibit and it was super hot in there. I really felt like I was in the Amazon. They had all these cool fish and they had this one fish that was as big as four desks. It was really cool to see a fish that big! After that we went to the Arctic room and that’s where the belugas are. They’re a kind of whale and we got to sleep right beside their underwater tanks! Before we went to bed though we had to get ready and it was annoying because there were so many girls and there was one little small bathroom well it was kind of big but when 30 girls had to be in there practically all at once it seemed really small. It was hard to get to sleep because of the hard ground and all the talking girls. We had to get up really early, but I was still really tired. I looked like a zombie even ask everyone in my class. Once we got ready we had some breakfast and we got to run around and take pictures and look at things we didn’t see the night before. Then they opened the gift shop and I bought four things. I bought a stuffy beluga, a necklace with a sea horse on it, a little snow globe, and a key chain. We also got free bags with sea otters on them. After we left we walked to the bus which took us to the ferry and then we walked on to the ferry. I got sushi on the ferry for lunch because they were still selling breakfast on the boat, but we already ate breakfast. When we got off the ferry my daddy was waiting for us there because he was driving us back to school and by the time we got back there the bell rang to go home. When my mom got home I showed her all the items I bought from the gift shop and I showed her all my pictures. She thought it looked like lots of fun! And it was an amazing experience.
Have you ever been to an Aquarium and if you have what was it like?
The Ocean
The
smooth waves
Swayed
The waves danced
On the
Shore
The ocean sings
Like a humming
Bird
“BOOM” crashes the wave
Against the rock
“SPLASH” goes the
Jumping fish
In the water
The waves
Push
The sand out of its
Way
The sound
Is calmer
Then a
Song
The rocks hop on the
Sandy
Shore
“Swoosh” the
Birds fly across the
Water

Maori Mihi
This week my class and I are going to be talking to Mr. Webb’s class in New Zealand! We will be asking questions about where they live and they will ask us things as well. So since we are talking to them, we have been learning how to say a Maori greeting to introduce ourselves. Mr. Webb’s class has been creating videos to show people how to do this. Here is my Maori mihi. It’s really fun to be learning this!

Earth Day! :D <3
Last week was Earth Day! Earth Day is a day when people around the world try to do things that help the environment. I love Earth Day it’s really fun if you have imagination. This year, to celebrate this day my class and I joined a paperless day! For the whole day my whole class used no paper at all! But in the class we don’t use that much paper any way, because of blogging and all the other things we do on the computer. Still we did have a successful paperless day. So instead of using paper for math we drew on our desks using dry erase markers and cloths. It’s really fun. After Earth Day we thought it would be cool to do keep doing this so now we have paperless Thursdays! Sometimes not even on paperless Thursdays we draw on our desks! Then our teacher comes around and gives you a check mark on our desk if you got it right. Earth Day was really cool. I really liked getting to draw on our desks and not get in trouble.

Survey
My school is having a fair! There are three classes doing it and are class is one of them. For the fair we all have to make something and sell it to a bunch of people. I made wind chimes and the chimes are made out of spoons and forks and they’re really cool. So I made this survey to see what people would like to see on my wind chimes. If you would like you can take it for me so I can get some feedback. Thanks!
Earth Hour!
This is a really smart idea because if a lot of people do Earth Hour you could really make a difference in the world. A lot of people participated in Earth Hour in my class but I didn’t get a chance because I was babysitting little kids and being in the dark would scare them and I would not want little kids crying. My family didn’t get a chance either because my parents were out with their friends. My sister was at her friend’s house and she forgot. A lot of the kids in my class told everyone what they did when they turned out the lights. Some kids said they played board games and played cards. Some were with their friends and just playing and running around in the dark. If I was at home during Earth Hour I would have been home by myself so I would have probably built a card tower!
What did you do or would you do on Earth Hour?

My AWESOME Trip To Disneyland! :D
This spring break I went to Disneyland. Well actually it was more like California because I went to more than one park! I went to Disneyland, California Adventure Park, and Universal Studios. If you read my Rideaphobia post, you would all ready know that and you would also know about how scared I am of rides. I think I got over it! I was always OK with the small rides like tea cups but never the big ones. Well I’m kind of okay with tea cups because they kind of make me sick. When I was little I cried almost the whole time I was in Disneyland, but this time I went on almost all the rides but I didn’t go on the roller coaster. When I first got there I was so scared of the rides but I was wrong. It was so AWESOME! I want to go back again. I had lots of favourites like Indiana Jones, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion and much more. My sister and I had a churro a day. They’re like a long stick of sugarcoated pastry and they’re so good. There is also downtown Disney which is just a whole little town that has a bunch of Disney stores, Lego stores, and key-chain stands and more! It’s really where I got most of my stuff from in Disneyland.

What’s With The Avatars?
A lot of you know that most bloggers have avatars. If you don’t know what an avatar is, it’s a mini person that is to suppose to represent you online. If you want it doesn’t have to look like you. Do you ever wonder why we have avatars instead of real pictures of ourselves? The thing is if we posted a real picture of ourselves we would be giving out extra information about what we look like. Once that picture is there everyone in the world can see it, download it or remix it. Even if you do delete it someone could have already saved it and did things to it. Once something is online you can never truly get it back.
